International Women’s Day 8/3 is considered as a day of solidarity and common struggle of working women around the world with slogans such as “8-hour working day”, “equal work”, “protect mothers and children”. It is a day to demonstrate the will of women to fight for national independence, democracy, peace and social progress; for the well-being of both women and children.

In many countries, this is the main holiday of the year with many exciting celebrations. These can be meetings, marches for equal rights between men and women, promotion opportunities, decent wages at work, fighting against abuse and violence against women, etc.

In our country, this is also an occasion to commemorate the Hai Ba Trung uprising – the first two heroines who had the merit of repelling the Northern invaders, regaining sovereignty and freedom for Vietnam. This illustrious uprising awakened the spirit of national pride. It is the source of the indomitable heroic tradition and the will of Vietnamese women nowadays.

Women receive attention and care from the men in the family every March 8. It can be wishes, small gifts, fresh flowers or more realistically, a voluntary day in the kitchen cooking, cleaning the house of the man. This anniversary is also solemnly held in mass organizations with many congratulatory banners and slogans.
